You don’t have to leave the city to spend an hour in the woods. Stanton Bird Club’s 450-acre preserve includes forest, meadows, wildlife ponds and Lewiston’s highest point. Parking is accessible from Montello Street, with another entrance on East Avenue.

Choose a short out-and-back walk or use the trail map to plan a longer loop. A quiet visit leaves time to watch birds, look at the stone memorials and notice how quickly the neighborhood sounds fall away.

The sanctuary welcomes visitors from sunrise to sunset. Leave pets at home, except service animals; bicycles, fires and collecting are prohibited. Fallen leaves can hide roots and uneven footing.
